The District's capital improvement plans for 2008 include
several water supply, treatment, storage and transmission
projects.
Construction will begin in early 2008 on several water main
transmission projects. These include a 30-inch main just
north of I-81 Exit 16, a 16-inch main on Charles Town Road
, and upgrades along Route 11 in the Ridgeway area, including
an emergency interconnection with Frederick County , Virginia
. By mid-2008, the District will complete the construction
of a 2 million gallon elevated water storage tank in Cumbo
Yard Industrial Park . Construction is also continuing on
a new river intake and water treatment systems at the Potomac
River Water Treatment Plant. The new facility will treat
6 million gallons/day and is scheduled to be online in 2009.
In 2008, the District will update its Water Facility Plan
that was initially prepared in 2004. This project includes
the identification of capital improvements necessary to meet
the District's growing customer base for the next 20 years.
Projects include major transmission lines, water storage
tank maintenance and replacement, identification of additional
sources of water, and water treatment plant upgrades.
Capital improvements are partially funded by a Capacity
Improvement Fee. The amount of the fee is based on the size
of the meter. The fee schedule is approved by the West Virginia
Public Service Commission and is included in our current
tariff.
